LinkedIn provides an array of opportunities for financial advisors to grow their network, build up their prospect audience, retain current clients and generate leads, especially via messenger. Here, I look at the key things every financial advisor should include in their LinkedIn profile.

Think about your headline

Creating your own informative headline enhances your searchability. LinkedIn allows you to include up to 120 characters to describe who you are before anyone even clicks on your full profile. Write a headline that will intrigue potential clients and encourage them to want to learn more about you. Include both job title and area of knowledge for the best impact to make a strong first impression.

Utilise the About section

The About of your LinkedIn page is one of the best ways to make a good impression and provides you with the opportunity to tell any visitors to your page who you are and what makes you unique.

Tell prospects why they should choose you over your competitors

Your LinkedIn profile summary is where you dig deep and think about why your clients choose to work with you, rather than a competitor that offers similar services. Most advisors we work with haven’t thought through exactly why clients make the decision to work with them. It’s helpful to ask some of your clients why they hired you and what they think makes you different. 

And finally, don’t forget the photo

Your professional image says a lot about you. Be friendly and inviting, but most importantly, be professional. While a picture of you with your baby is cute, it belongs on Facebook, not on LinkedIn – and save your wedding pictures for Instagram!
